Objectives: To present a Smart Energy Meter (SEM) that reduces errors effectively while generating the electricity bill. Methods: This SEM confluence of modern technology and existing electrical architecture, yet it is low-cost device suitable for Indian environment. The proposed only incorporated with current sensor other associated circuitry. Findings: A quantitative comparison between our SEMs revealed superior in economy, circuit complexity, accuracy. With mere Rupees (INR) around 3k to 3.5k, can be designed used. There no complex circuitry this SEM. accuracy also comparable meters could attain up 0.7-0.9 % Novelty: system deals digitalization billing process help sensors are used calculate usage time each household device. Subsequently, alerts user about consumed units using GSM (Global System Mobile Communication) module. An Advanced Reduced Instruction Set Computer Machine (ARM7) microcontroller continuously monitors system, results viewed through built-in Android App. Wi-Fi module allows continual data updates control home appliances.
